That she sees something worthy in him, despite his pratfalls and social clumsiness and inability to hold onto words. The way she hardly hesitates, her confidence and courage. The clothes she wears, her favorite brand of coffee, her total refusal to watch any film that features Tom Cruise.
She’s a woman who is more than a woman, who has walked the earth - and above it - for centuries, and has looked upon humanity with a measuring and unflinching eye. Hedone has seen everything man is capable of, all of his majesty and cruelty. And yet, sometimes, she looks at him with astonishment, and laughs with unbridled surprise. It’s an overwhelming sensation; she makes him feel brand new. Important. And she has the loveliest neck he’s ever seen.
Sometimes he wishes that he was better with words, so he could write a lovely poem about the curve leading to her shoulder. Instead, he has to settle for tracing it with his fingertips, and the delight in her smile as her skin goosebumps.
